In-salt-a(x)tion ist ein Performancekunstprojekt, dessen zentrales Element Salz ist. Die Provinz Nan ist seit Jahrhunderten für ihre Salzgewinnung bekannt. In Bo Kluea, nördlich von Nan, wird salzhaltiges Wasser aus alten Brunnen geschöpft und in Pfannen über offenem Feuer erhitzt, bis das Salz abgeschöpft werden kann – ein Verfahren, das auch aus der mittelalterlichen Salzproduktion in Deutschland, etwa in Schwäbisch Hall, bekannt ist.
Die künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit Salz begleitet mich seit den frühen 1990er-Jahren. Salz ist nicht nur lebensnotwendig, sondern seit jeher auch Träger symbolischer Bedeutung. Aufgrund seiner konservierenden Wirkung galt es als schützend, lebensspendend und spirituell aufgeladen. In verschiedenen Kulturen steht Salz für Freundschaft, Reinigung, Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Göttlichem sowie für Schutz vor Verfall und Tod.
Vor diesem Hintergrund versteht sich In-salt-a(x)tion als performative Untersuchung von Salz als Material, Symbol und Ritual – zwischen Körper, Erinnerung, Vergänglichkeit und Bewahrung.In-salt-a(x)tion
In-salt-a(x)tion is a performance art project whose central element is salt. The province of Nan has been known for centuries for its salt production. In Bo Kluea, north of Nan city, salt water is drawn from ancient wells and heated in large pans over open fire until the salt can be collected—a process similar to medieval salt production in Germany, for example in Schwäbisch Hall.
The artistic exploration of salt has accompanied me since the early 1990s. Salt is not only essential to life but has also carried strong symbolic meanings across cultures. Because of its preservative qualities, salt has been associated with protection, vitality, purification, and spiritual power. It has served as a symbol of friendship, a link between humans and the divine, and a means of resisting decay and death.
Within this context, In-salt-a(x)tion explores salt as material, symbol, and ritual—situated between body, memory, impermanence, and preservation.

Das Asiatopia House in Nan wurde von dem Künstlerpaar Chumpon und Noi Apisuk geschaffen. Es ist ein offener Ort der Inspiration, an dem Natur, Architektur und Gastfreundschaft zusammenwirken.
Als Künstler und Kurator ist Chumpon eine zentrale Figur der zeitgenössischen Kunst in Thailand. Das Asiatopia House liegt bewusst in ländlicher Umgebung und ermöglicht Künstler*innen, zeitweise in einem Dorf zu leben und zu arbeiten, in dem Reis und Orchideen angebaut werden. Die Nähe zum Dorfleben und die ruhige Atmosphäre fördern Austausch, Konzentration und künstlerische Prozesse.
Asiatopia House, Nan
Asiatopia House in Nan was created by the artist couple Chumpon and Noi Apisuk. It is an open and inspiring place where nature, architecture, and hospitality come together.
As an artist and curator, Chumpon is a key figure in contemporary Thai art. Located in a rural setting, Asiatopia House offers artists the opportunity to live and work temporarily in a village where rice and orchids are cultivated. The calm environment and connection to village life support artistic focus and exchange.
