Transnation at Viva Excon
Im November 2023 fand die VIVA ExCon Biennale in der Provinz Antique auf der Insel Panay, Philippinen, statt. Die Biennale vereint Ausstellungen, Konferenzen und diskursive Formate, die sich kritisch mit regionalen Bedingungen künstlerischer Arbeiten auseinandersetzen und zugleich Dialog, Wissensaustausch sowie kollaborative Praktiken über disziplinäre und geografische Grenzen hinweg fördern.
Erstmals in der Geschichte der Biennale wurde ein eigenständiges, autonomes Performance-Art-Programm eingeladen und realisiert. Dieses Programm wurde von Mitgliedern von TRANSNATION – Coalition for the Arts umgesetzt, einem internationalen Netzwerk zur Unterstützung von Künstler*innen, die in politisch eingeschränkten oder konflikthaften Kontexten arbeiten. Das Programm positionierte Performance als kritische, körperlich verankerte Form künstlerischer Forschung und legte einen besonderen Fokus auf transnationale Austauschprozesse sowie situiertes künstlerisches Handeln.
Zu den teilnehmenden Künstler*innen gehörten Boyet de Mesa (Manila, Philippinen); Monika Weber (Tübingen, Deutschland); Andreas Hoffmann (Tübingen, Deutschland); Evamaria Schaller (Österreich); Padungsak Kochsomrong (Chiang Mai, Thailand); Satadru (Delhi, Indien); Daisuke (Japan); sowie Zoncy (Myanmar/Berlin).

Transnation at Viva Excon
In November 2023, the VIVA ExCon Biennale was held in the province of Antique on the island of Panay, Philippines. The biennale integrates exhibitions, conferences, and discursive platforms that critically engage with the regional conditions of artistic works while fostering dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative practices across disciplines and geographies.
For the first time in the history of the biennale, an autonomous performance art program was commissioned and presented. This program was realized by members of TRANSNATION – Coalition for the Arts, an international network dedicated to supporting artists working within politically constrained or contested contexts. The initiative foregrounded performance as a critical and embodied mode of artistic inquiry, emphasizing transnational exchange and situated artistic practice.
